March 24th 2019

Hosted by: University of Hong Kong Faculty of Architecture

We invite you to save the date for our one-day conference “The Evolution of the Form and Function of Cultural Institutions” taking place on the 24th of March at Hong Kong University, coinciding with Art Basel Hong Kong. More information about the schedule will be sent to you shortly. We look forward to having you join us in Hong Kong!

About the Event:

China’s ‘museum boom’ has created an array of new museums and cultural spaces all over the region, but as the physical spaces manifest at rapid rates, we are left to consider fundamental questions about how a museum program, mission, and content should relate to its building. For this one-day conference, Museum 2050 and ARTinD invite artists, architects, academics and arts professionals to dialogue on the relation between Art and Architecture and its impact. What are the architectural requirements of a cultural institution? To what extent are cultural buildings public spaces? What function do museums and galleries have beyond exhibiting art?
